The Bagpipe Shop
Product Code: BK000130
The Eliza Ross Collection, compiled in 1812, was discovered in Raasay House in 1954. The collection includes one hundred and fifty songs, instrumental dance tunes, reels, jigs and slow airs along with six piobaireachd and is now republished as a new edition.
In this new edition fifty nine of the tunes have been set to bagpipe notation. The manuscript was compiled when the piper to the laird of Raasay, James MacLeod, was John MacKay. The foremost piper and teacher of his day, many pipers flocked to learn from the master, who himself was taught by the MacCrimmons and the MacKays of Gairloch.
is a completely updated edition where the pipe tunes have been edited and transcribed by Peter Cooke and Dr. Angus MacDonald. Many tunes are previously unknown and others are early settings of more familiar tunes and masterpieces of Gaelic song.
